The 21st century teacher and the digital space: a digital skills training with TTAG Volta
On 31 October 2026 I led a three-hour online digital skills training for 79 teacher trainees from Dambai and Jasikan Colleges of Education, with the Teacher Trainees' Association of Ghana (Volta Sector). The handbook is free to download.
On Saturday 31 October 2026, I facilitated The 21st Century Teacher and the Digital Space, a digital skills training organised by the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG), Volta Sector, Northern Zone.
The session ran for three hours on Google Meet, with 79 participants, teacher trainees from Dambai and Jasikan Colleges of Education. I’m an alumnus of Dambai College of Education, so this one was close to home.
The training was hands-on. Trainees were given tasks to try on their own phones and laptops as we went, because doing something once is what makes you remember it.
What we covered
Digital literacy. We started with account security: passphrases, 2-Step Verification and the WhatsApp code scam. Then we used the SIFT method to check information before forwarding it, and talked about digital footprints and Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), because learners’ names, photos and results are personal data.
Google Workspace and Classroom. We looked at sharing files with the right permissions, Suggesting mode and version history, quizzes in Google Forms that mark themselves, and running a Google Classroom from a first assignment to returned marks, including when data and devices are limited.
AI for teaching and learning. We looked at what a chatbot actually does and where it goes wrong, especially with references. We practised a simple prompt formula (Role, Task, Context, Format) and improved a lesson plan step by step. I also showed how teachers can use Nyansa, an AI teaching and learning platform from my company, PagezTech Ventures. The rule for every tool was the same: AI drafts, and you check, adapt and decide.
Research and referencing. We finished with finding trustworthy sources, automatic contents pages and citations in Google Docs, Zotero, and the basics of APA 7th edition.
The handbook
Every step from the session is written up in a participant handbook, so trainees can return to it at any time. It’s free for any teacher to use.
Thank you
Thank you to TTAG Volta Sector, to the host, Vice President Nicholina Gborzo, and to everyone who gave up their Saturday evening to take part.
